Friends From All Over Toast Wellington’s 50th

Pam Fajen, YCPO Chair

Once in a while it’s a good thing to listen to what the governor says.  I can’t believe I just said that.  Anyway, I have heard him say “Try things…make mistakes.” And I, being the good little committee chair, have done just that.  I had this great idea to have a different service project at each district meeting.  It is a good idea….I still believe that….just some ideas stay ideas.  The plan was to have a reading project at the Mid-Winter conference so all could see what a great idea it is to read to young children.  Well, there is only one problem….young children do not want to come out on a cold Saturday morning to be read to.  They like being read to when you go to them in their schools, Head Starts and daycares, but Saturday mornings are for sleeping in, watching cartoons, and shopping with your parents.  To make a long sob story short, there will be no children at Mid-Winter.  However, I have also heard the psycho-governor say “Adaptability is a sign of good mental health.”  The plan has now evolved to collecting books for young children in the Emporia community.  Please bring a book or books suitable for use by a young child to Mid-Winter.  We will collect them and distribute them to area daycares and Head Starts.
