Pittsburg Youth Maintains Service
The Pittsburg youth wave keeps rolling with several projects and even a new K-Kids club. Want to see how busy these clubs have been and what is next? Check out the briefs below.
The YCPO Committee has kept busy as usual. Several bags of diapers and baby items were donated to the Mother-to-Mother Ministry. They also partnered with the Southeast Kansas Recycling, Inc. and donated over 100 Little Golden Books and Tell-a-Tale books to the Crisis Center. The Board of Directors voted to contribute $150 to the PSU Nursing Department to help with their next trip to Mexico where they will be helping doctors who are not able to work with the kinds of supplies or equipment that they are used to here in the States. Club members were challenged to match club’s donation to the Nursing Department.
The K-Kids Charter for Lakeside Elementary School K-Kids Chapter has been signed and sent on to International for their blessing. Michelle Casey, faculty advisor, and Rachel Patterson, parent advisor, are excited about getting the first K-Kids club chartered in Pittsburg.
A very successful Key Club Honors Luncheon was held for the top ten percent of the 2006 graduating classes from Pittsburg High School and St. Mary-s-Colgan. These students are the leaders of tomorrow and they are wished the best of success throughout their life’s journey. Kathleen Flannery spoke to the seniors about leadership skills and continuing service to others during the next level of their lives.
The Pittsburg State University Circle K has been busy winding down one school year and getting ready for the next one. A bunch of Circle K’ers got together at Bo’s One Stop for the final highway clean-up of the year. Even though it was windy, the sun broke through for them and they were able to clean up the highway in what seemed like record time. The clean-up was also made easier by the great people who showed up, and then they were rewarded by going to get snow cones! All in all, everyone seemed to have a great time and the highway is now in great shape. They have also held their elections for the 2006-2007 school year. President will be Sarah Dees; Brian Lamb, Vice President; Marissa Ritter, Secretary; Lance Jepson, Treasurer, and Kristina Sommer, Service Chair. They are looking forward to a great time next year.
