Russell chartered a new Aktion Club on September 23, 2005. The new club has 16 members recruited from Disabled Citizens of Northwest Kansas and the surrounding community.

Past Lt. Governor Dee Ann Matheson was instrumental in getting this new club started.

“I visited with Larry Zenor (Aktion Club committee chair) about 2 years, the first year I was a Lt. Governor, about starting a club in Russell. I thought we had a community that would really benefit from an Aktion Club and an area special education teacher was very excited at the idea of starting the club,”  said Matheson.

During their installation ceremony, members created Trauma Dolls and decorated sugar cookies. They have many projects on the horizon and will work closely with the Russell Kiwanis clubs.

“They will be helping with our annual fish fry and several other events. They are so excited to be part of Kiwanis. They are constantly thinking of ways they can provide service,” said Matheson.
