New Aktion Club Charted in Great Bend
Joe Boley, Great Bend Kiwanis Club Secretary
The Kiwanis Club of Great Bend, with a representative from Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend, has chartered an Aktion Club. An Aktion Club is for people with developmental disabilities. Dr. Terry Turner, President of the Great Bend Kiwanis; Dan Soeken, Hoisington Kiwanis Club and a Past Division 8 Lt. Governor; and Larry Zenor, Hutchinson Kiwanis Club, Aktion Club Administrator; assisted in the establishment of the new club.
Amanda Urban of Great Bend Kiwanis will be in charge of the club and
is on staff at Sunflower Diversified Services. Kiwanis member Pam
Chambers will serve as the club adviser. The club will be open to any
adult 21 years old or older with developmental disabilities. Hutchinson
has an Aktion club and the Great Bend club will be the only other
Aktion Club in Kansas at this time. Great Bend is donating the
start-up cost for the new club. Hoisington and Larned also plan to
lend start-up support for the club. Dan Soeken said, "This is right
down to the grassroots of what Kiwanis is all about.”
